Safety Around The Home

We all want our homes to be safe for ourselves, our children, and visitors.   While accidents sometimes do happen, we can take preventative steps towards keeping our homes a safe place to live in.

Tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

  • Getting in and out of the tub can be slippery business, this bathtub and shower handle will help give you a firm grip on this issue.
  • Keep tub toys and accessories organized with our bath toy bag.
  • Safe-T-Shapes bath appliques help keep toddlers from slipping while in the tub, our bath mats come in fun dimensional designs and vivid colors making bath time extra special.
  • Sharp edges on tables and counters are always a hazard for the toddler and the adult.  Toddler Kusions for Corners will help prevent injuries.
  • thudGuardIf you’ve ever been uneasy about the possibility of your child seriously injuring his/her head while learning to walk or during play, Thudguard is the answer.
  • Keep those computer and lamp outlets away from curious little hands.
  • Cover extension cords, cables, speaker and other electrical wires
  • Secure your appliances from moving, slipping or sliding.
  • Keep cabinets off limits to toddlers with wide grip latches.  Great for the kitchen, the garage, or the workshop.

These are but a few of the many safety measures you can take to ensure your home is safe for you and your family.

Safety Tips For A Happy Holiday

During the holiday season fireplaces, candles, holiday trees and toys are a huge part of the celebration.  Here are a few holiday safety tips that will ensure you and your family enjoy your time together.

  • Choose toys that are appropriate to the child’s age.  Be sure to read and follow all warnings and instructions that come with the toy.
  • Toys with small loose parts can be dangerous to children under the age of three, keep them out of reach.
  • tipResistant_2Remove furniture and decorations that may be hazardous to children.  Prevent furniture from tipping over by using tip resistant furniture safety brackets.
  • Secure cupboards and doors.
  • Never leave burning candles unattended.
  • Cut candle wicks short to prevent a high flame and use sturdy candle holders that won’t easily tip over.
  • Prevent potential injuries from bi-folding and sliding fireplace doors, and hearth.
  • Keep children away from gas fireplaces. When in use, the glass doors can become hot enough to cause serious burns.
  • Be sure that your smoke detector is in good working order.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

Two More Weeks to Canadian Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day is Monday, October 12th, 2009, and is the perfect occasion to spend some quality time with our loved ones and friends. Cooking, shopping, visiting relatives and exchanging presents are the usual top priorities on any family “to-do-list”, but if you have babies or toddlers at home, don’t forget babyproofing and childproofing.

With the hectic schedule we all have during holidays, child minding becomes a bit more stressful than any other time of year, but if you follow some simple tips, you can make the most of the upcoming celebration:dfb178ec-0778-4af7-b889-96fac6dc95c8

  • When going on road trips, double check your child’s car seat to ensure it fits his/her height and weight, and if it is installed properly. At The Safety Superstore we carry a wide range of comfortable, durable and ultra safe Car Seats for babies and toddlers.
  • Bring a few books or toys to keep your baby or toddler entertained. At our store you will find some of the cutest and educational toys on the market, as well as some great books.
  • Keep potholders and food wrappers at least three feet away from heat sources while cooking.
  • Wear tighter fitting clothing with shorter sleeves when cooking.

  • Set timers to keep track of turkeys and other food items that require extended cooking times and make sure all stoves, ovens, and ranges have been turned off when you leave the kitchen. For extra protection, try our:
